Due to the weak radioactivity of the natural uranium, the intake of U-containing compounds by ingestion or inhalation, pose a great health risk. Contamination of the drinking water or the soil (usually in the form of uranyl-ions) should be avoided, though in the surrounding of uranium-mines or other nuclear facilities the concentration can be significantly higher in spite of the strict regulation. Within the European Union the 238U level of the drinking water should be less than 15 µg/L (it will be reduced soon), while in the USA the limit is two times higher 30 µg/L.
B2AM Ltd developed UraCheck, a reagent to extend the limit of detection in the fluorimetric determination of uranyl-ions. With the help of this fluorescence enhancer, even small traces of Uranium compounds can be detected, and quantitatively measured.
The range of detection for uranyl ions is: 0.02-3000 µg/L (ppb).
Sensitive ICP-MS control measurements show the reliability of this method.

Fast, cheap and simple! Before use, the reagent should be freshly prepared, by dissolving a bag of UraCheck powder in 1000 mL deionized water. After adding 100 µL of the analyte to 5 mL of the reagent the solution is ready for fluorimetric measurements!
